Now the really interesting thing about all the media coverage on pirates – and let’s be honest here, the media LOVE the Somali pirates – is how boring the coverage has been once hostages are released (with the exception of the American hero-captain-dude who everyone loved and who got to meet Obama).

Today the Somali pirates freed a bunch of Pacific Islanders. Unfortunately they were from Tuvalu and therefore not white so therefore not so important.

The main gist of the coverage seems to be that now they’re free they can have a big fun party. Whoop!

And not like OMG how horrible for them they must be so traumatised so let’s go get those damned pirates… which is exactly what I’d want the media to say about me if I was ever kidnapped by pirates.
